Altiora is more than just a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy—it’s a community dedicated to personal growth, discipline, and excellence. Founded in 2019, Altiora was built on a passion for self-defense, submission grappling, and fostering a welcoming environment where students of all ages and skill levels can thrive.
Our coaching team, led by experienced black belts Dan Rohe and Eric Silz, provides high-quality training tailored to everyone from beginners to advanced practitioners. We offer a variety of programs, including adult and kids' BJJ, No-Gi grappling, and self-defense classes designed to build confidence, resilience, and technical proficiency.
We believe in pushing past comfort zones to achieve personal and athletic success. Whether you're training for competition, self-defense, or fitness, our mission is to help you strive for higher goals—both on and off the mats.
Our mission is to inspire growth, resilience, and excellence through the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Rooted in the meaning of "Altiora"—"to strive for higher things"—we are committed to fostering a community where students of all levels can push their limits, develop discipline, and achieve personal and athletic success.
We believe in the transformative power of Jiu-Jitsu, not just as a martial art but as a way of life. Our academy is dedicated to providing high-quality instruction, a supportive training environment, and a culture of respect, perseverance, and continuous learning.
Through dedication, humility, and the pursuit of excellence, we aim to empower individuals to become the best versions of themselves—on and off the mats.
I was born and raised in Cincinnati. I became intrigued with Jiu-Jitsu back in the early 2000's watching the UFC and finally decided to take my first class in 2009.
For me, it was like playing Chess. It helped me gain confidence, which spilled over to my work and personal life in a positive way.
I continued training and received my black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2018 under my friend and coach Jeff Robison. I started teaching BJJ in Greendale in 2017. I founded Altiora Jiu-Jitsu in 2019 with my partner.
My wife and I have lived in Dearborn County for 20 years and raised two children there. I have a passion for teaching self-defense and submission grappling, and love giving back to the community that has supported us.
I was also born and raised in Cincinnati. As a kid, I was always interested in combat sports. I started wrestling in high school, and that sparked even more interest. I started training MMA in 2008, when I was introduced to coach Jeff Robison. I soon discovered Jeff was a very talented coach and mentor. Jeff trained and lead me through several MMA fights and tournaments. At the same time, I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I developed a passion for BJJ and received my black belt in 2021. I have a passion for teaching and discovering new strategy and techniques.
Outside of Jiu-Jitsu, my wife and I have 4 children and I work in the transportation industry.
I am a Lieutenant at Lawrenceburg Police Department. I have been a Police Officer for 15 years and a firearms and Defensive Tactics instructor for 13 yrs. I was Introduced into Jiu-Jitsu in 2018 and became a Gracie Survival Tactics Instructor shortly after to be able to bring Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to the rest of my department. I became a member of Altiora through the “Adopt a Cop” program in April of 2021 and have been training 3-4 times a week ever since. Come see me at Altiora Jiu-Jitsu!
Darius has developed a love of grappling like his father Eric. He has wrestled every season since the age of 4, and has been training Jiu-Jitsu for the last 2 years. Darius helps coach the youth classes and loves to teach. We are very excited to have him and cant wait to see how far he will go!
